Fortunately, you can cook steak on a griddle whatever the model you have available. In fact, cooking steak on a griddle is no more difficult than cooking it in a frying pan or on the barbecue. So, however you like to eat it, delicious and juicy steak can be just a few minutes away if you own a griddle. So, how do you go about cooking steak in this way?

We are often asked whether a griddle or frying pan is best for cooking steak. The truth is that both are a great way to cook steak. As long as the cooking surface is nice and hot, you should be able to cook delicious steak on a griddle or in a frying pan.
When you're cooking steak on an electric griddle, or any type of griddle for that matter, you'll want to know the very best temperature to cook it at. A medium-high temperature is ideal because it will cook the steak through and brown the meat surface deliciously. Around 260-400 degrees Fahrenheit is ideal for a regular thickness of steak. If your steak is thinner, you will need a higher temperature as you will be cooking the steak much more quickly.
How long you cook your steak for depends greatly on hw well done you want your meat. To cook steak on an electric griddle or any other kind, you'll need to know the correct cooking time. Some people prefer their steak still blue, while other people like a very well done steak. If you're cooking for children, chances are you'll want to cook the steak on the more well done end of the spectrum.
For a medium rare steak, a cooking time of 4 minutes each side should produce a perfect steak unless your steak is very thick. Increase this time to 7 minutes each side for a medium steak, and even longer if you want the steak really well done.
Our method uses butter instead of oil. However, you can use a brush of cooking oil or even a mixture of oil and butter to prevent your steak from sticking to the griddle pan.
There are plenty of recipes out there for steak marinades. Also, you can purchase plenty of delicious ready-made steak marinades at the store if you don't want to make your own. Steak marinade can really help to add an extra dose of yummy flavour to your meal. Also, a marinade containing something acidic such as vinegar can help to make your steak super tender. Luckily, it's super easy to make your own steak marinade without any expert know-how using ingredients you probably have in your kitchen already. As our marinade ideas use oil, you will not need to oil the griddle.
It's really easy to make a marinade for steak. As a rule, use double the amount of oil at least for the amount of acid you intend to use. Any cooking oil that's liquid at room temperature should work fine such as vegetable or sunflower oil. Acidic elements that work are lemon or other acid fruit juices, vinegar or balsamic. Then, be creative with adding spices and other flavourings. Fresh or dried herbs, spices, garlic and onion all make tasty and flavourful additions.
Once your marinade is complete, place your steak in an airtight container or food bag and pour on your mixture. The meat should be left in the fridge to marinate for between 1 and 12 hours.
It's not a good idea to marinate steak for more than around 12 hours. Any more than this can change the texture of the meat.
Cooking fillet steak does not require any special technique beyond that used for any regular steak. However, check the thickness of your fillet steak. If it is thicker than an inch, you will need to increase the heat of the griddle to above 400 degrees Fahrenheit. As fillet steak is such a luxury, it's a nice idea to add a good knob of butter to the griddle towards the end of the cooking time to make it even more delicious. Also, remember not to overcrowd the griddle with steaks. 2 steaks on a standard sized griddle is really the maximum. However, if you have a large flat top griddle, you can cook more at once as long as there is space between them.
Our method at the top of the article will work just great for cooking rump steak. However, check the thickness of the steak. If it is very thick or very thin, you will need to adjust the cooking time accordingly.
A rib-eye steak is extra delicious because it has a marbling of fat that makes the steak extra juicy and tender. Therefore, we recommend cooking the steak on the griddle using our tested method to medium rare. This is enough to melt the fat deliciously. Any more well done and you will lose a lot of the benefit that comes with this type of steak. However, if you are cooking for children or people with a compromised immune system, you may want to cook the steak for longer.
Skirt steak is an inexpensive cut of meat that is great for adding to dishes such as fajitas. However, it can be a bit tougher than many other types of steak. It's perfectly fine and very easy to cook skirt steak on a regular or electric griddle.
The key to cooking great skirt steak is to tenderise the meat first using a meat tenderiser. This will hep to make the meat more tender to eat. Then, you can cook the steak according to out method but with a drizzle of oil added before you put the steak in the pan. For a medium-rare to medium steak, cook for 3 minutes on one side and then 2 on the other. Skirt steak needs a little less cooking time as it will be thinner, especially after tenderising.
